Black Friday is known for dramatic discounts, but if you’ve been eying a slow fashion brand like us, you might be wondering why our discounts don’t quite match up to those of larger retailers. The reasons for this are numerous, so let’s get into it…

Here’s why our approach to Black Friday looks different.

We Never Overproduce

At AYM, we produce with care. Using a pre-order model or creating small production runs means we only make what we know will sell. This minimises our environmental impact but also means that we don’t have lots of surplus stock to shift at the end of the year. Big brands often overproduce intentionally to drive down prices, allowing them to offer extreme markdowns to clear inventory.

Higher Costs, Smaller Margins

Larger brands benefit from economies of scale—ordering vast quantities at reduced rates, significantly lowering their costs per item. This enables them to offer steep discounts without impacting profitability. As an independent brand, our focus on quality and responsible production comes with higher costs. Offering extreme discounts simply isn’t feasible for us without compromising our values.

Sustainability Over Impulse Buying

Shockingly, 80% of Black Friday purchases are unused or discarded within a year. This is likely due to attractive discounts that encourage impulse purchases. In order to avoid contributing to this statistic, we strive to promote mindful shopping year-round, by offering pieces you’ll love and wear time and time again
